Eating in NOLA
I ate very, very well in New Orleans. That’s actually were most of my money went. It did not pass go, it did not collect $200, it went directly to food.
Poopsie & I went to one of Emeril’s restaurants. Menu here. The service was fantastic. The presentation of the food was awesome. It always came with a florish. Oh and they color coodinated your napkin to your clothes (black dress-black napkin). The appetizer, we had the calamari was very, very tasty. The tomato sauce compliment the calamari very nicely and changed the olives in an interesting way. We skipped salads. For my entree I had the Grilled Filet Mignon “Au Poivre” with Fried Mirliton Lyonnaise, Caramelized Onion and Jumbo Lump Crabmeat – Demi Glace. This was tragically overcooked. I ordered it medium-rare/rare and I got it medium. The glace was good, but the meat, well it was too cooked for my tastes and a bit on the fatty side (as in large chunks of fat). Dessert was to die for. We got two deserts: the J.K.’s Chocolate Grand Marnier Soufflé and Creme Brulee. The creme brulee was fantastic. It was vanilla flavored served with a ginger cookie and fruit. So tasty.
The next evening I went to K-Paul’s. Menu. Here I skipped the appetizer thought I wanted to try the Turtle Soup. Instead I had a house salad with vinegar & oil dressing (good but not as good as the one at the hipster pizza place). For dinner I had the Blackened Twin Beef Tenders Debris. This was awesome. The sauce is amazing. It is made from beef stock cooked out of a brisket. It takes three days. I got it medium-rare/rare and it was! Here’s how good this thing was: I did not recieve a steak knife. I cut it with my butter knife. For dessert I had the Custard Marie, which was good-but Emeri’s was better.
To sum up I would get appetizers and desserts from Emeril’s and the main course at K-Paul’s. Eating is never this good in my neighborhood.

Most places just can’t cook a good steak. I tend to avoid them unless I’m at a Steak Restaurant.

I was thinking of having peanut butter and jelly for dinner – after I read your descriptions I realize that really won’t be sufficient.
was it difficult to get into such famous places?
(has that subtle-but-large “type here” always been here and I just didn’t notice it?)

Yes the type here has always been here, but since it’s subtle you might miss it. I agree that the fade in thing is cool.
Getting into the restuarants. At Emeril’s we had reservations so it was no problem. Of course that came with about 3 weeks forethought. At K-Paul’s I just walked in. It was my dinner time, but for some that is obscenely early (5:45 or so). K-Paul’s takes reservations now–both places I was underdressed, but it didn’t seem to matter that much.
