I used to heart Facebook. It was my favorite time waster/internet obsession. But through it I learned of evil. I almost feel like I should erase my account. This knowledge that I hold is truly vile and it is all the fault of Facebook. If I hadn’t networked and discussed the divine nature of cheese I would have never discovered the abomination.
Protect the children. Enforce trade embargos. Contact the UN. Something must be done. It appears as if this is just the first in a line of terror plots.
If you need me I’ll be hiding in the corner.

This year for Thanksgiving I had truly planned on following my own personal tradition of sleeping and enjoying a Subway sandwich (turkey of course). I had even turned down an invitation to the Garden State. However Delaware presented itself.
One of the kids I went to elementary school with now lives in the city. He found me after my dad died. Yay obituries and the magic of the internet. We met up for a drink a couple of weeks ago and caught up with the last 19 or so years. It was quite strange seeing him, especially since we have so many things in common–even our “uniform” long sleeve shirt + hipster/skater t-shirt with jeans. Anyway he ended up inviting me to Delaware and how do you say no to Delaware?
We left Thanksgiving day for the First State, traveling by a not so shady bus–hey it had free WiFi. We took it to Philadelphia where we then got on the Septa to Marcus Hook traveling past some very nice fixer-upers and landing in some industry. J’s step-father picked us up and off to Wilmington we went. J’s brother flew in later in the afternoon from Chicago rockin it all lawyer-style.
Thanksgiving dinner was actually at 5:30 or so and featured all the classics. We spent the next 3 hours yelling at Luke (the lawyer) to change the channel because no one wanted to watch Moonstruck.
On Friday J, Luke, their mom and I set out to get some culture. Their mom started at the George Read house in New Castle so she decided to give us a tour. We weren’t allowed to ask questions because she didn’t really know the answers. Afterwards we headed to the Brandywine museum to get in a little Wyeth art. We stopped at a tavern or something for a late lunch before I had to head back to the train station to the bus stop to NYC to the subway because (Yay) I had to work on Saturday.
Overall it was very enjoyable. I highly recommend Delaware. Everyone should visit.

Tonight I hit up BB Kings for the most fun awesome show of the month: The Aquabats! Okay, so I’ve known about the Aquabats for years, (who hasn’t really?) but had never been to a show. They recently did a thing on Yo Gabba Gabba, which you know that I have an obsession. Anyway, I decided to go, but not because of the ‘bats. Nay. But rather one of their opening bands: Suburban Legends. I saw these guys back in Tallahassee and loved them. I check up on them to see if they are ever near me every couple of months. Low and behold they were in New York and at BB Kings. Tickets purchased!
The very opening band was Tragedy, A Metal Tribute Band to the Bee Gees. Yes it was even better than you could care to hope. They had a “roadie” that would come out, wipe them down and apply more glitter. Yes, it made for a good Thursday evening.
I’m hoping that BrooklynVegan will review the show and I’ll be more on top of it tomorrow.

So Friday night was Smashing Pumpkins. Let me tell you kids this isn’t the Smashing Pumpkins you remember so fondly from high school. No, James & D’arcy are gone. This Smashing Pumpkins features 8 musicians plus Billy Corgan. Now they did play some of the old favorite and the crowd went nuts. They also played about 40 minutes of jam band style acid rock. I enjoyed it, but I’ve also been listening to an awful lot of Grateful Dead over the past three weeks. Please note that Billy Corgan and I style have the same sense of fashion.

On Saturday the fantastic MF Chris was in town and we met up for drinks downtown. I bugged out of the East Harlem Haven a little early to get a bite to eat and a brew. I went down to Manchester where I was lucky enough to meet the Canadian. So the Canadian and I met up with MF Chris the the Sho-Thing for more booze.
We went on a whirl-wind tour of drinking holes. We started off in LES with Nolita and this little nameless place that had the best margaritas & guacamole. Then we headed to Lombardi’s for pizza. Here’s a good shot (thanks Canadian!) of us waiting for the pizza.

From here we headed up to Mars Bar to eat our pizza. Why would we go to the most digusting bar in the city to eat? Because that’s the way we roll. This picture makes it look almost sunny.

The Canadian bugged out after that while Sho-Thing, MF Chris & I headed further north in the East Village hitting B Bar and ending at Bar 42. It was a good binge.

Today my co-worker was telling me how upset her boyfriend was that he *had* to go to the Smashing Pumpkins concert tonight. Let me tell you he got no sympathy from me and then…he gave me his ticket. Wooo-hoo! I’ll let you know how it is.
